How To Join

As an AMA Charter Club, The Hill Hoppers are always looking for new members to share the fun of our hobby. If you are interested in joining the club, we encourage you to come out to our flying field and introduce yourself. Club members are usually at the field flying each Thursday and Sunday, if the weather permits. If you need advice on purchasing a plane, engine, or radio any club member would be glad to help.

Becoming a club member is simple:

  1. Join the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA).  See http://www.modelaircraft.org for information.  All Hill Hopper club members must be a member of the AMA. You must bring your valid membership card to your first meeting.
  2. Fill out and submit a Hill Hoppers club application.
  3. Purchase an aircraft and necessary field equipment. A good place to purchase these would be your local hobby shop.
  4. Attend a club meeting at the flying field. At the meeting, introduce yourself and announce your intention to join the club.

Benefits of joining the Hill Hoppers

  • Access to the club flying field
  • Free flight instruction from experienced pilots
  • Assistance with all aspects of getting started in radio control model aviation.
  • Monthly membership meetings to socialize with others in the hobby, get help, tips and advice.
  • Liability insurance (included with your AMA membership, which is a requirement for Club membership).

Flight Instruction

All new members are encouraged to work with an experienced club member until they acquire sufficient skills to fly their airplane safely. The experienced club member (flight instructor) will instruct the new member not only on how to fly their airplane, but also on safety issues at the field as well.
